ATTRACTIVE LAKES OF CANADA 1
SIMO JELAČA, Ph.D.
PREVIEW
I have previously written about the beauty of Canadian lakes, which I have visited and enjoyed their charms. My intention is to describe in these articles the lakes that I have visited and a few others, which truly represent the pearls of Canada. These are, first of all, Great Slave Lake, next to Yellowknife, in the Yukon Territory; Lake Louise in Alberta; Moraine Lake, also in Alberta; Emerald Lake in the Yukon Territory; Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba; Lake Ontario in Ontario; Lake Erie in Ontario and Deer Lake, also in Ontario. Information about each of these lakes will be provided that makes it particularly interesting and significant for Canada. Official information confirms that Canada has more lakes than all the countries in the world combined. However, there is no data on the exact number of lakes, although it is said that there are over two million, and there is information, which no one claims to be accurate, which mentions as many as three million lakes in Canada. The fact is, when you fly by plane in many parts of the country, there are so many lakes that it is not clear whether there are more lakes on land or land in the water. This is the natural beauty that shapes Canada as one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

GREAT SLAVE LAKE is located in the Yukon Territory, right next to the city of Yellowknife, it is a real pearl of the territory and the city. About 21,000 inhabitants live within a radius of 120 kilometers, along Slave Lake. The lake has an area of 28,438 km2 and is located at an altitude of 590 m. It is 614 m deep, its water is exceptionally clean, drinkable. It is suitable for swimming and has one of the ten most beautiful beaches in Canada. It is the tenth largest in the world and the second largest in Canada. Many birds live on Slave Lake, and there are about twenty houses and cabins on the lake, the owners of which do not pay city tax. During the winter, it freezes over, even to a thickness of one meter of ice, and therefore serves as a snowmobile trail. The nearest area of the lake is inhabited mainly by the Cree and Dene Indigenous tribes. The lake is rich in fish: walleye, northern pike, yellow perch, and whitefish. Not far from Yellowknife is the town of Ray (110 km), where about 1,500 Cree and Dene residents live.

LAKE LOUISE Lake Louise is located in Alberta and is considered the most picturesque lake in Canada, and a good part of the world. It is one of the fifteen most beautiful lakes in Canada. Its water is turquoise-blue. Lake Louise is surrounded by ten mountain peaks, which are reflected in the lake water and make the lake extraordinarily beautiful. It is one of the most visited lakes in Canada. It is glacial in nature. Lake Louise is not large, only about 2 km square, and its depth is 70 m. It is suitable for swimming in the months of June, July and August. It is located at an altitude of 1750 m.
MORAINE LAKE Moraine Lake is located in Alberta, 14 km from Lake Louise, and belongs to Banff National Park. It is a snowy and glacial lake. It is located between ten mountain peaks, which are covered with white snow caps even in summer and are reflected in the lake. It is located at an altitude of 1884 m, its surface area is 50 hectares, maximum depth 14 m. The fish living in the lake are: Rainbow trout, Mountain whitefish, Cutthroat, Brown trout and Brook trout. This lake is famous for its reflection and azure color. Although you can swim in Moraine Lake, it is not recommended, due to the cold water throughout the year, which has a temperature of around 0 degrees Celsius. Grizzly bears can be seen around this lake. Moraine Lake is considered famous, since its photo is on the Canadian 20 dollar banknote, issued in 1969 and 1979.
